OKKERVIL RIVER

"The goal was to push my brain to places it didn't want to go. The idea was to not have any idea – to keep myself confused about what I was doing," frontman Will Sheff says about Okkervil River's newest album. "I produced it myself so that I could extend the songwriting process all the way through to the very last second of recording, so the songs would never really stop changing." The resulting record, 'I am Very Far,' is a startling break from anything this band has done before. By turns terrifying and joyous, violent and serene, grotesque and romantic, it's a celebration of forces beyond our control.

Here’s your listening activity for the next hour. McSweeney’s presents Wayne Coyne’s Human Head-Shaped Tumor, a radio drama much like that of War of the Worlds. New video for “Your Past Life as a Blast” on IFC

There’s a brand new video for “Your Past Life as a Blast” from director Isaac Ravishankara available today on IFC’s website. The new flick attempts to answer the question, “How do you capture a memory?” Gorgeously shot in upstate New York, the video follows a boy and a girl on an adventure to a secret lake where they jump into the water and swim out as far as they can.

Ravishankara says the hardest part of the shoot “were all of the water scenes. We spent hours in the lake and it was awfully cold. By the end of the day, Ben and Margaret and I were so cold, our shivers had turned to full-on uncontrollable shaking, which Kevin (Haden, DP) thankfully captured. That last shot in the video is my favorite shot I have in anything I’ve ever made.”

Okkervil River will be on tour through the end of November in Europe. You can see a full list of dates here.
