Directed by UK artist Marsha Balaeva, the new video for Moonface’s “Faraway Lightning” premiered today on MTV Hive. Balaeva created the video with her own hand-drawn images. “According to her, the story corresponds to the five stages of mourning — as the clip’s protagonist travels between worlds, he comes to grips with his loss. Krug is a master at blending myth and fantasy into everyday stories — in fact, the character’s feather suit and fall to earth recalls the Icarus story, a myth Krug used frequently with Sunset Rubdown.” It’s the second video to accompany his recently released album With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery. “The result is a blend of startling lyrical depth and slow, whirlpools of murky music.” Consequence of Sound
Where Krug’s output in the late 2000s was virtuosic and volatile, Bravery is poised and comparatively stoic. The record functions on tension and, for the most part, does so brilliantly. PopMatters
“Juggling minimalism and majesty, Krug elegantly conducts every one of Siinai’s fluttering, kosmische pulses into the numb room behind his sternum. No wonder his heart is breaking.” A.V. Club
